Desktop Lathe
2012
For my advanced machine design class at MIT, our team made a desktop lathe using flexures for lateral positional control and a linear carriage for the axial positional control. This was an intense exercise in precision machining, sourcing components with suitable specifications for the error we expected, and sizing motors to take a lot of torque loads!

We were able to cut a 1/2in diameter round steel stock steel with our lathe sized 11inx11inx14in.
