Walker Prime

Senior Design Project, 2012

WalkerPrime is a cane-walker hybrid which addresses the need for users
who need mobility aids that do not restrict the environments they can visit.
The device is easily actuated, requiring little force to switch between cane
and walker mode. The device is lightweight, intuitive to handle according
to our test users, and safe.
The prototype was developed in a team of 12 engineers, with extensive
market research and a product development cycle of 3 months. The final
alpha prototype was launched in a public event at MIT’s Kresge Auditorium.
The device has slim handles which combine into one thicker handle which is
still comfotble to hold in cane mode, and the front wheels lift off the ground
allowing the device rest on the flat rubber legs.
