MIT Celebration Yo-Yos
2011
For the advanced design and manufacturing class at MIT, we designed a Da Vinci/Tim the Beaver inspired Yo-Yo and had to mass produce 150 units using thermoforming and injection molding machines. We learned a lot - how to make parts within tolerance and how to pick tolerances for complex gear shaped snap-fits. We were able to produce many samples well within the 95% dimensional intervals, and showcased the yo-yos at MIT's 150th celebration.

Most sample critical dimensions were within the two error bar limits. The chart above shows the results of our thermoform final die and process parameters. The chart on the right shows the results of our injection molding final tooling and process.
